COUNSELLING –Asking for help is a STRENGTH not a weakness and perhaps the first step is to find the courage to seek that help. Are you looking for peace and redirection in your life? Are you seeking to be in a safe place and in good hands in which you can share with me your most private thoughts and feelings? You may feel that your difficulties are holding you back and preventing you from moving forward.

Diane can offer you the space you need, will listen, seek to understand your world as you see it and together work through your issues. I shall allow you to be just that – ‘YOU’ Safe in the knowledge that you will not be judged, criticised or belittled. Simply accept and respect you as you are. Our time-shared together will be fulfilling, enriching and enlightening.

GENDER AND SEXUAL MINORITY THERAPY – This therapy includes work with minority groups that fall outside the accepted view of ‘heterosexual’. This may include: gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals, transgendered, transsexuals and cross dressers or those who have sexual preferences and practices that the majority in society may deem to be ‘unacceptable’. Diane also works with relatives who perhaps cannot come to terms or understand and wish to explore their emotions and feelings.

Diane will always maintain and demonstrate respectful attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. Respect for client’s integrity, sexual and gender identity and lifestyle. Value diverse sexualities and relationships equally with heterosexual ones. See prejudices and oppression as pathological, NOT sexual minorities.

Help undo negative conditioning of incorporated stereotypes in clients. Be alert to the identity, development and expression of the whole repertoire of human emotions; especially hurt and anger. Desensitise shame and guilt around same sex attractions or gender transposition. Diane will never contract to change or eliminate a client’s sexual desire or orientation.

BEREAVEMENT / PET BEREAVEMENT – Everyone’s experience of grief and loss is unique. It is normal to feel sad and even angry when a person close to us dies. However, mourning is a ‘cycle of loss’ which often includes fear, anger, loneliness, denial and the letting go. Yes it can be a painful process but it allows us to come to terms with loss.

Grieving is normal but it can manifest itself differently in people. Some are able to move through this process effortlessly and others get stuck. Diane can help to accept the reality of the loss, work through the confusing pain of grief. Offer an understanding of the mourning process, help resolve areas of conflict still remaining. Any loss has to be acknowledged in order to move forward and allows those remaining to adjust to their new life, not forgetting or wiping out memories.

Sadly pets do not live as long as humans. The loss of a much loved pet can be equally devastating.

For some a pet was not only a companion but their life! The cycle of grief is the same and the loss has to be acknowledged. Diane both an animal lover and owner is able to empathise with such losses.

CRITICAL INCIDENT DEBRIEFING/TRAUMA THERAPY – The aim of CID is to minimise unnecessary psychological distress or responses in the aftermath of a traumatic event by allowing the ventilation of impressions, feelings, and reactions, and to help people to make sense of their experience by creating a better understanding of the nature of traumatic incidents, explaining the normalcy and predictability of reactions, allowing feelings to be shared, and reversing a natural tendency to ‘bottle things up’.

Diane has been trained to use the Mitchell and Dyregrove model which is a seven–stage process which people are guided through. Useful for incidents such as Assaults, Rape, Robbery, Domestic Violence Incidents, Major Incidents, Finding a Dead Person, Road Traffic Incidents. Contact Diane to request an information sheet outlining the process in greater detail.

STRESS MANAGEMENT – Can you identify with some of these responses?

Inability to concentrate – panic – insatiable cravings – loss of self confidence – irrational fear

Increase/decrease in sleeping/eating – hair pulling – nail biting – increase in alcohol or drugs

Inability to sit still – increased pulse rate – gritted teeth – shortness of breath – clenched jaw

Not only does stress and stressful situations produce stimulation and challenge that human beings require to function. It is a positive feeling when it provides excitement, impetus and motivation. However, it can also provide distress and anxiety. Do you want to learn to manage stress, resulting in interpersonal relationships both at work and at home, to be more harmonious and compatible, leading to an improvement in your overall quality of life?

If the answer is YES we will together examine a range of options. Stress management is complex, dynamic and an interactive process. Therefore, it will require an element of commitment from you.
